The most boring Betway Premiership team revealed?

kaizer chiefs didn’t set the Betway Premiership alight last season, scoring just 25 goals. However, 2024-2025 shows signs of promise.

2023-2024 was a season to forget for Kaizer Chiefs

With 25 strikes last term, only Cape Town City, Richards Bay, Swallows, Royal AM, AmaZulu and Polokwane scored fewer goals than Chiefs in the 202302024 season. However, there are signs that things are looking up for Chiefs who already have six goals from their opening three games in 2024-2025.

Royal AM are a tough watch

This season, Royal AM’s four matches have produced a TOTAL of two goals, and all four have been draws. The last three have all ended 0-0. Coach John Maduka won’t see it that way though, he’ll likely be delighted at the frequency of clean sheets that goalkeeper Zakahle Xolani Ngcobo is collecting. Richards Bay, Magesi, SuperSport United and TS Galaxy are the four other sides with only a single goal after four rounds of Betway Prem action.

Controversy dominates a classic between Chiefs and Sundowns

Reeve Frosler put Ranga Chivaviro in on nine minutes and the former Gallants man made no mistake. Chiefs were 1-0 up, and that’s two goals in two games for Ranga. However, the real stories of the day were Amakhosi’s wastefulness, Ronwen Williams’ excellence and a pair of controversial decisions by the refereeing team. They allowed Iqraam Rayners’ 37th-minute winner even though the former Stellies man appeared to be offside. This was all after Lucas Ribeiro Costa had equalized for the Brazilians on 31 minutes. Sundowns and Bafana ‘keeper Williams excelled in goal, denying Chivaviro, Ashley Du Preez and Edson Castillo with excellent saves.

Inacio Miguel thought he had equalized in stoppage time but the strike was disallowed as he was deemed to have committed a foul. Amakhosi fans weren’t enchanted.

The next three matches for Amakhosi

The Glamour Boys have a few interesting tests on the horizon although they must wait 27 days until they’re next in action. They’ll fancy their chances against a trio of sides struggling in front of goal. Meanwhile, Royal AM is up against the unbeaten Sekhukhune on October 26.

  • SuperSport United – Saturday, October 26, Lucas Moripe Stadium, 17:30
  • Magesi FC – Wednesday, October 30, Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, 19:30
  • Royal AM – Sunday, November 9 – FNB Stadium, 17:30
