Njabulo Blom’s return sparks midfield battle at kaizer chiefs ahead of the AmaZulu clash, according to Soccer Laduma.

Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has hinted that returning midfielder Blom could play a pivotal role this season, even though he missed the Premiership League opener, a 2-1 victory over Marumo Gallants. Nabi’s comments signal a potential shift in midfield, setting the stage for healthy competition among the players.

Sources within the club suggest that captain Yusuf Maart and rising star Samkelo Zwane have little to worry about regarding their positions, despite Blom’s return on loan from his MLS side. “Yes, the coach made those comments about Blom, but it doesn’t pose a threat to any players,” stated an insider. The source emphasised that both Maart and Zwane will likely remain the preferred choices in most matches, as Nabi aims to rotate his lineup to keep the competition alive.

Castillo and co face increased pressure

However, another insider revealed that Njabulo Blom’s presence could create challenges for players like Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Edson Castillo, who will compete for spots alongside Maart, Zwane, and Blom. “While Samkelo (Zwane) and Yusuf (Maart) might be safe and see regular game time, the same can’t be said for Ox (Mthethwa) and Castillo,” the source explained. With Blom back, Mthethwa might struggle to secure playing time, while Castillo may primarily come off the bench. “The team was even considering loaning Ox out for this season. So, let’s wait and see,” the insider concluded.

Mthethwa’s urgent need to prove himself

Adding to this, Mthethwa must elevate his performance to earn more minutes under coach Nabi at Kaizer Chiefs. After arriving with great expectations, Mthethwa has yet to replicate his promising form from Stellenbosch FC. He made 20 appearances but completed full matches in only half of them, a concerning statistic for a holding midfielder. “He wasn’t used in another seven games,” highlighting his struggle for consistent play.

With Nabi at the helm and several changes this off-season, Mthethwa now faces intense competition from Maart, Zwane, Edson Castillo, and the returning Blom for central midfield positions.

As Njabulo Blom returns to the squad, the competition in the midfield at Kaizer Chiefs intensifies. Players like Mthethwa and Castillo must adapt quickly or risk losing their places as the season unfolds. With Nabi’s strategic vision for the team, fans can expect thrilling battles for starting positions, making this season one to watch.
