Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi had a go at kaizer chiefs following his side’s 2-1 win over Amakhosi on Saturday afternoon.

The 53-year-old coach won his third straight league match to maintain top spot. The match however, was filled with drama after Chiefs had their last minute goal cancelled by the referee.

Speaking after the match, Mngqithi thanked the supporters. “Thanks to our supporters who came in numbers to support us,” he said on SuperSport TV.

“Unfortunate for the Chiefs fans, but they came in numbers, we appreciate that,” Mngqithi added.

“Even if they didn’t get the result, but at least they had the crowd and they’re also going home with some nice flags, I like those flags. Thank you.”

Amakhosi head coach Nasreddine Nabi was left frustrated with the match officials. The club’s technical team was seen protesting Sundowns’ second goal, which replay shows that Lucas Ribeiro was marginally offside.

“I’m surprised in South Africa we don’t work with VAR – it’s impossible in Morocco, Tunisia, in North Africa,” Nabi said.

“A big country like South Africa with a big federation and national team and we don’t work with VAR.”
