kaizer chiefs rejected global interest for midfielder Edson Castillo in the recently just passed transfer window but what is the latest on his situation.
Chiefs made it clear that Castillo is not for sale. Despite attracting interest from top clubs globally, Amakhosi have rejected all interest for the Colombian star.
Contract revealed: Castillo staying until 2025?
An inside source close to the situation has revealed to The South African that Castillo’s contract runs until 2025, with a two-year deal plus an option for an additional year. “His contract was 2+1, so at least one more season,” the source confirmed.
Before the start of the season, several clubs expressed interest in signing Castillo, but Kaizer Chiefs were quick to shut down any potential moves. “There was interest globally, but not from Europe officially,” the source added. “He isn’t pushing for a move, he’s enjoying his first year at Chiefs.”
Confidence conundrum
Castillo, a highly anticipated signing from Venezuelan club Monagas SC at the beginning of last season, joined Chiefs with immense expectations.
He quickly made a substantial impact, contributing five goals and one assist in his early appearances. However, as the season progressed, his form gradually declined, and Amakhosi finished outside the top eight.
Now, he appears to be making progress under new coach Nabi, earning one first-team start in the three games Chiefs have played so far.
The 30-year-old began on the bench against Marumo Gallants and AmaZulu FC in the Betway Premiership. In the match against AmaZulu, coach Nabi relied on Yusuf Maart and Njabulo Blom to manage the midfield.
Nabi’s plan to revive Colombian
Nabi is committed to helping Castillo regain his form. “Honestly, in this moment and after the pre-season, he has not gone back to the real Castillo… I want to help him get his confidence back.” The coach praised Castillo’s professionalism and vowed to give him chances to shine.
With Castillo staying put, fans can expect to see more of the Colombian star in action. As Nabi works to restore Castillo’s confidence, the Amakhosi faithful will be hoping for a return to form. Will Castillo rediscover his magic?
Stay tuned with The South African , as we investigate how Kaizer Chiefs rejected global interest for Castillo. But now they are left with a player low on confidence, who they could have sold in the last window.
