Kaizer Chiefs playmaker injured for five months

News just came in that kaizer chiefs Edson Castillo will be out for four to five months.

This was the last thing Nasreddine Nabi needed following his sides 1-0 loss to SuperSport United – AmaKhosi’s second defeat in four league games.

Life will be harder without the Venezuelan international who was become an integral part of the team, linking up play in the buildup and halting opposition from punching through the midfield.

Full statement

AmaKhosi provided an official statement:

“It is with great dismay that we announce that Edson Castillo will be sidelined for a period of four to five months due to a fractured fibula sustained during the match against SuperSport United on Saturday evening in Polokwane. The serious injury occurred in the first half, as a result of a vicious tackle on him inside the opponents’ 18-yard box.

“In the aftermath of the tackle, our head coach, Nasreddine Nabi expressed his concern for player safety and was subsequently issued with a yellow card for his impassioned plea to the officials to prioritise the protection of the players.

“The Club stands firmly behind Edson during this challenging time. We are committed to providing him with the necessary support and resources as he undergoes surgery and embarks on his rehabilitation journey. Our thoughts are with Edson as he focuses on his recovery, and we look forward to seeing him back on the field stronger than ever.

“Further updates will be provided as they become available. We appreciate the continued support from our supporters and the football community.”

Kaizer Chiefs in a spot of bother?

Nabi’s side slipped to 9th on the log, nine points off their rivals Orlando Pirates, but with a game in hand; however, for a team seemingly ready to fight for the title, Saturday’s loss must have been a shock to the system, a slither of doubt begins to creep back into the Soweto Giants mentality.

Their upcoming fixture is against newcomers Magesi who having knocked out league leaders Orlando Pirates have shown the world what they’re capable, meaning it’ll be no walk in the park for Kaizer Chiefs.
