kaizer chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns are set to play each other again in the coming weeks.
The two teams faced off this past weekend in a dramatic encounter which saw the Brazilians win 2-1 in a Betway Premiership match. The game itself produced controversy with Amakhosi’s last-minute equaliser ruled out for a foul.
It appears as if Chiefs and Sundowns will have a rematch during the FIFA break. The PSL is set to take a three-week break which has left many teams fuming given that the league only started a month ago.
Amakhosi coach Nasreddine Nabi said the club will face several teams during the break including Sunsowns.
“Definitely, we have scheduled some friendly games and amongst the teams that we are going to face, we do have Mamelodi Sundowns,” Nabi told the media.
“But I don’t understand why the league is stopping. We have just started on the 16th of September. We played only three games and now we stop, guys please.”
Chiefs coach reveals the team will play Sundowns this month
Downs coach Manqoba Mngqithi said the PSL refused the schedule a match during the weekend of the MTN8 final.
“We will try to have some friendly matches in between. It’s a bit unfortunate because we did think it would have helped us to play in the week of the MTN8 final so as to alleviate pressure on our side. But unfortunately, it did not happen,” he said.
It appears that both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns will renew their rivalry in the coming weeks. The two teams produced what many thought was the game of the season thus far.
