Great news for key Kaizer Chiefs star

kaizer chiefs are preparing a new contract for one of their most senior, influential operators. The good news keeps coming.

Maart to extend his Kaizer Chiefs stay

According to local publication Soccer Laduma, Chiefs want to reward central midfield dynamo Yusuf Maart with a new two-year deal which includes an option to extend for a further year. That would keep him at Naturena until June 2028.

Midfield dynamo’s importance is clear for all to see

Yusuf Maart is one of the first names on the team sheet at Kaizer Chiefs, regardless of who the manager is picking the side. His tactical smartness and versatility, coupled with his leadership skills, make him indispensable to the cause. The 29-year-old has started both of Chiefs’ games this season and will lead them out against Sundowns at FNB Stadium.

Arguably Maart’s finest moment in a Chiefs jersey was his wonder-strike against Pirates in 2022.

Kaizer Chiefs vs Sundowns is a mouthwatering highlight

Chiefs and Sundowns have 100% records after two rounds of league action so something has to give at FNB Stadium. Chiefs opened their campaign with a 2-1 win over promoted Marumo Gallants; Mfundo Vilakazi and Mduduzi Shabalala got the goals. Then they were far too strong for AmaZulu, winning away 3-1 with goals from Ranga Chivaviro and new boys Gaston Sirino and Inacio Miguel. Sundowns got a routine 2-0 win over SuperSport courtesy of new man Iqraam Rayners and Brazilian Lucas Ribeiro Costa. They then dispatched Gallants 4-1 with goals from Tashreeq Matthews, Rayners, Costa and Sphelele Mkhulise.

Kickoff is on Saturday 28 September at 15:00. You have to go back to April 2021 for Chiefs’ last win over Sundowns in any competition. Ironically, Uruguayan Sirino was a goal-scorer for Sundowns on that afternoon.
